Scarlet->Fire

Story about the project

This is something that I have been working on during my spare time for the last couple of weeks. This marries two of my passions together - learning more about Grateful Dead, with learning more about how to better use AI. I built this for myself, but a few of my friends asked me to share this with the community, so I am doing that here.

I have been using this to listen to how Grateful Dead's ways of playing certain songs changed from 60s to 70s to 80s and 90s.

You can use this site to search for information about songs played in concerts by Grateful Dead, and a few other bands. An easy way to start would be to select one of the songs in the opening page. These songs are sorted by how many times they played these in concerts. The real gems are towards the end - songs they have played less than 10 times altogether. When you select a song you can look at how many times they played that song over the years in a bar chart. You may click on any of those years to look at all the concerts with that song. You may click on any of those dates to listen to that concert on Archive.org.

If you want, you can look at the pie charts for songs typically played before or after the song. If you click on any of those pie slices, you could get the stats for that combination of songs (e.g. Scarlet Begonias followed Fire on the Mountain, or Estimated Prophet followed by Eyes of the World).

For the power user, there is search and the advanced search. Search lets you search for a combination of songs. Don't worry about spelling the whole song, or spelling mistakes, the system can automatically guess what you meant. The advanced search is for those super-fans and tapers, who would like to search for very specific things - like when they played China Doll in Winterland somewhere in mid 70s in October, or how many time have they played Alabama Getaway in Alabama. Here also, don’t worry about spelling things correctly. It does not take abbreviations for states yet.

By popular request, I am adding support for multiple bands. However, most of them do not have links to archive.org.

All feedbacks welcome! I would love to hear what else you would like me to add to this site.
